Accessibility
The Priory is wheelchair accessible using an elevator in the porch, and the nave of
the church is on one level. A wheelchair accessible lavatory is available during
service times at the St Blaise Centre. The Priory also has a hearing loop.
Opening Times
The Priory will remain open for private prayer after Mass every day until dusk.

The Priory sits in the delightful village of Boxgrove, some 3 miles from the Cathedral City of Chichester.
It is easily accessible by car via the A27, and from Chichester by public bus service. Visitors are warmly welcome here, both those who come to experience the church and its grounds, or to explore Christian faith and practice.
Boxgrove Priory is a parish church in the Diocese of Chichester. It is home to a diverse congregation, which stands within the catholic tradition of the Church of England.
The Mass (Eucharist) is offered here each day. The main Sunday service at 10.30am combines beautiful music, traditional ceremonial and thoughtful preaching, to appeal to all the senses.
FOUNDED IN THE 12TH CENTURY
Boxgrove Priory in West Sussex
Boxgrove is an ancient settlement, home of the Bronze-Age ‘Boxgrove Man’. From an entry in the Domesday Book we know that Boxgrove had the status of a parish at the time of the Norman Conquest, and that the South Saxons had already built a church here. The Priory Church, dedicated to St Mary and to St Blaise, replaced this building in the early twelfth century. It was built as the daughter house of the Abbey of Lessay in Normandy, and the “grand-daughter” of the great Benedictine Abbey of Bec Helouin. The Priory has been recognised as one of the outstanding examples of monastic architecture in the south of England.
“It is a magical church full of echoes of French influence along the Sussex coast. Its crossing is a mystery of light and dark and the great chancel is alive with Tudor roses and heraldry. The De La Warr chantry contains beautiful early French motifs from a Book of Hours. These must be some of the best renaissance carvings in any English church. ANTHEMS, MOTETS AND FUN
Music at Boxgrove Priory
Music forms a major part of the liturgy at Boxgrove Priory. Polyphonic and plainsong settings of anthems, motets and the Mass are used by our renowned choir.
We welcome singers who can sight read reasonably well – in all parts – to come and sing with us. It is not necessary to come to every service and, although the Choir operates with a core of regular members, there are several others who come once or twice a month. There are yet others, who live further away, who come when they can.
